After a good night under the mozzie net, we started our day early at 7AM. On our balcony we did some yoga practice before we got our breakfast on the big hotel balcony. The staff organized our pick up to the bus station in Negombo. From there we intended to take the public bus to Colombo-Fort where we wanted to take the train to Kandy, the biggest city in the highlands. At first we saw a line of around 50 people in front of a bus with the sign “Kandy”. But luckily a swedish couple told us, that this was the bus with AC, which we do not really appreciate at all.
So we took the same bus like the couple and were dropped off in the middle of Colombo Fort – which is really busy and no signs how to come to the train station. Fortunately a young guy felt sorry for us and showed us the way to the train station. There we could buy some tickets for the 2nd class.
All trains were full because of the weekend starting soon but we catched two window seats and only paid 190Rs!!! (1,30€) After the 4 hour train trip, we arrived in Kandy. At 4:30PM we arrived in Kandy and got with the tuktuk in the daily traffic jam. We checked in our home stay, the Kandy City Mission which has been founded by a German Priester.
We stayed there for two nights, the rooms were really basic but clean and the manager was very friendly.
